How do you feel about GWs?
So after playing the game to death over the last few years, it was about a year ago me, and a lot of other people, had decided that the game had done exactly that.. Died.
But I really never gave up hope. I played to talk to friends, play some RA, and see what was going on through updates..
But after playing other popular MMO's, and even a few crappy freeware ones, I realized that really.. GW's is still the King of the MMO's I've played.
I've been playing Aion since beta, and really hoped it would get better.. but it actually hasn't done anything really.. and while it and other games out there haven't done jack and still cost me money (like Champions Online, Conan, Warhammer, etc) GW's is still free, still doing huge updates, and STILL has the BEST balance of ANY MMO out there (imo).
Long story short, how do you guys feel about GW's and the current state it's in. I know I'll always have a place in my heart for the first MMO that truly fits the way I think games should be (skill>time).

It's really only dead for the ones like us who played it to death..maybe not as dead for the newer players.

Well, the lack of proper balance maintenance has shoved it down the same road of the late 90's strategy games. Those were basically complex optimization functions containing a small set of viable local optima.
Unfortunately, those were generally better games. They stick to being optimization functions and don't drag in problems like ping wars or rock/paper/scissors non-strategic decision-making. For whatever reason, the people that like junk like kiting (which functions like penalty kicks in soccer) or skill cancel wars (the poison scene from _The Princess Bride_) won the war of influence with the devs.
If you like that stuff, GW is great. If not, various older games are just better right now. I haven't had a chance to really explore Codex, and I may tell you differently after I do. It may provide a better optimization challenge than other GW formats for a while.

STILL the best PvP out of all the games out there. World of Warcraft's "gear battles" and Aion's zerg fests can't even hold a candle to GW.

<3 GW and always will, sure a lot of things have changed over the years, some for the better some for the worse, but in the end it is still the same old game I know and love.
After all my years of playing I really just find myself going for GWAMM. And besides...ecto prices have been going up as of late

GW being the best is why so many people bitch about it. If there was something better, we'd all be playing that instead of complaining about how dead and how bad GW is.

I still think it's the best MMO (for me)
I play Aion atm. Also played CB6 and OB. I rly like it but it's getting boring already! It's a grindy game. And I like to change my playstyle but then I have to do all the grind again. And thats what I love about GW. builds and cross proffesions! Another thing is pvp. GW has great pvp. Aion has very bad pvp IMO. It's pvpve so you only get ganked etc. and the real pvp thing (sieges) are not playable for most pc's..
So yh after 4 years of GW I still log in the GW servers =D
What I think of current GW:
-My best GW time was before factions. Good old prophecies! completing prophecies while using mending and healingbreeze! everybody did it! no build discrimination. good times!
- Why did they ruin the Economy? Zkeys and farming (SF! 55 Monks) made it worse.
-I like inscriptions etc in pvp. But why did they do that in pve? pve was the place were you can be unique! the guy with the perfect eternal shield! now you get perfect weapons for less then 5k.
GW2 gonna be awsome!

Developers happened. And powercreep, and assassins/ritualists, then paragons/dervishes... New chapters, you might say.

I always feel sorry for those who completed the pve part of the game in a week or so, whatever was the point in rushing.
Ok I have completed 2 out of the four games mainly because though I played many hours every day at first now I play at a more reasonable rate while also having a life outside the game.
I also get sidetracked away from missions to try other classes builds a little farming maybe or skill and title collecting.

It was a good game, I just hate how skill updates have gone from once a month (okay) to once every 2 months (><). I think they are pretty important if only to keep the game feeling fresh and let people try out new skill combos etc.
And I think one reason for its succress was stepping away from traditional mmo's and the grind for levels and gear. Being free also helped too :P

You're right. I LOVED Prophecies. Still do. But things just seemed to have went downhill after it. I think it's because the world's split. Cantha, Tyria, Elona, three seperate worlds and the game instanced so less likely to build a community. I hope GW 2 brings us back to one world.
